Honda design and manufacture petrol strimmers with only 4 stroke engines. We have covered the aspects of 2 and 4 stroke engines on an earlier page within this site. Many people are put off buying a strimmer with a 4 stroke engine, purely on the weight factor alone. This we can understand, but with Honda strimmers you need to be aware that they are fitted out with the World’s lightest 4 stroke engines available, and indeed their strimmers can actually be lighter than other brands having a 2 stroke engine. So Honda strimmers are well worth looking in to and comparing against their rivals, especially if you only refrain from purchasing a 4 stroke model on weight issues.

The 3 models of petrol strimmer that Honda produces are the HHT25SLTAT, HHT35SLTAT and the HHT35SUKAT. Each are designed with different jobs in mind, yet they do have very common design characteristics. What really separates each model is the engine power and torque levels. Depending upon the type of gardening work you have planned for your strimmer, will determine which Honda petrol strimmer you will choose. If you are a fan of the Honda brand, then the whole process of deciding on a strimmer is simplified. The choice is small and select. This concept appeals to us here as well. Some brands produce so many different strimmers that the selection process becomes a drawn out and difficult process.

4 Stroke Engine

The 4 stroke engine is a better engine than the 2 stroke engine. We say that and many others say that too. The 4 stroke is a lot more fuel efficient. The noise output is lower and on the environmental front, they produce less smoke and odours. In general the 4 stroke engine will have more torque, though there are some examples of the 2 stroke that do supersede their rivals and can match the 4 stroke. But these are few and far between and rarely found on hand tools such as petrol strimmers. The Honda engine does have the Honda reliability factor on it’s side as well as the necessary maintenance tasks that are required for strimmer engines. The Honda 4 stroke is easy to service, provides fewer problems and does run smoothly. The engine of the strimmer is the heart of the device and with the Honda engine you will find yourself owning an extremely healthy strimmer.

Easy Starting

In most cases when you pick up a Honda petrol strimmer it will start first time without any problems. Honda attributes this to design of the engine and the whole strimmer itself. Whether this be true or not we do not know. However every single Honda strimmer that we have had contact with, has actually started first time without any trouble. This could be pure coincidence however and we have not tried huge numbers to be able to say that we have performed a survey.

Comfort

The Honda strimmers are easy to use as well as being comfortable in operation. There is no need to mix up fuel and oil and the maintenance levels are low. In use their strimmers have a good ergonomic design and they are found to be well balanced gardening tools. The vibration levels are minimal as well and are helped with the anti vibration shafts.

Cost

The Honda petrol strimmer is not cheap to buy initially. In fact compared to other models they can be extremely expensive. However their engines a extremely fuel efficient, which is money saved. Honda say that if you are a professional landscaper who uses a strimmer every day, then the Honda strimmer will pay for itself in a year by the savings you make on fuel and oil.

Performance

Honda strimmers have been designed to excel on tough jobs. Their engines give you strong low end torque and ample power when required. Such is the power level of their strimmers, the majority of gardening jobs can be done at less than half throttle. This will also save you fuel costs and engine wear.

Flex Shaft

We like this feature on the Honda strimmer. Their flex shaft is lighter and stronger than a solid shaft and tests show that it will outlive a solid shaft. The shaft comes with a limited lifetime guarantee from Honda.

Reliability

The Honda petrol strimmer has been designed to last. The engines are commercial grade 4 stroke overhead cam GX. The gearbox is heavy duty with the gears being helical cut and there are double ball bearings on both the input and output shafts. All these features combined scream out reliability.

Noise Levels

Honda trimmers are fitted with the quiet line. It is specially designed cutting line that can reduce noise levels by as much as 5 decibels. The engine is quiet due to their design and because the strimmer does not need to be at full throttle on most jobs, your ears will feel the benfits.

Weight

4 stroke engines are heavier than 2 stroke engines in general. This will make a 4 stroke petrol strimmer much heavier and harder to work with. However the Honda engine is the lightest engine available in it’s class. When it comes to weight as well, there is a tip we would like to pass on to you when it comes to selecting a petrol strimmer. Bear in mind that certain manufacturers list the weight of their petrol strimmers without the cutting head attached. Honda always list the weight of their strimmers including the cutting head.
