Whether it be weeding, digging, pruning or using gardening tools such as the petrol strimmer, the gardener needs to have a good quality pair of gardening gloves to protect the hands. The garden can be a wonderful place to kick back in and just relax. Visually, a well kept garden will pleasure for endless hours. Add the gorgeous scents that blooms give off with the hypnotising sounds of wildlife and you could find yourself in nirvana. However all of this comes at a price. The price is hard work, love and attention plied by the wheelbarrow to your garden. All this work can have a devastating and extremely painful effect on your hands if they are not protected properly. Hence the requirement for gardening gloves.

Nowadays there are an astounding number of garden gloves available. Gloves now can be bought to match a specific gardening task. This is an important aspect as not only is the lifespan of the gloves extended, but adequate protection is provided to your hands.Gardening gloves are now supplied in leather, rubber, plastic, latex and cotton just to mention a few materials. Even the fine and delicate gardening jobs are catered for. Before, wearing gardening gloves on these delicate jobs was a pain. But thanks to modern technology thinner materials have been produced to give better working and fitting garden gloves.

Quality Gardening Gloves Pay Their Own Way

When it comes to choosing gardening tools and equipment many gardeners will disagree with each other as to what is required and which are the best. However all gardener’s are united in their opinions regarding garden gloves. You must buy quality.

A pair of garden gloves that fit well will give the user ultimate comfort for all of those garden chores. Gloves come in a few sizes but generally are categorized as men’s gardening gloves, women’s gardening gloves and kid’s gardening gloves. They come in different materials which can include leather and cotton and many pairs will have added features such as breathable materials.

When it comes to quality, the construction of gardening gloves is all important. A glove that is thicker and tougher will work that much longer and harder. Leather is an appropriate material here and a very fine example. Cotton on the other hand is cheaper and lighter than leather. If you match leather gardening gloves with cotton gardening gloves, the cotton versions will show wear a lot quicker and in time will have holes worn through in the palm or fingers. To combat this, some cotton gloves do have leather patches on the vulnerable parts. If you go for cotton gloves with leather patches always check the stitching around the patches. The stitching can actually rub your hands and cause blisters.

Quality gardening gloves will also be washable. Gardening can get dirty and a dirty dried out glove will become stiff and hard to work with. Not all garden gloves are washable and in our opinion they are basically throw away gloves. Do not buy them.

As with most products you only get what you pay for. This too is applicable with gardening gloves. A gloves price tends to be determined by the material used and the quality of construction. A good strong pair of gloves will cost a lot more than a disposable pair. Stitching too on a garden glove is important. Double stitching or heavy thread is an absolute must have in a working glove. Stitching that is loose or thin will easily break rendering the garden gloves useless. You can tell the quality of a pair of gardening gloves by the quality of stitching.

So what you are looking for when you want a good quality pair of gardening gloves is something made from a material such as leather. The stitching all round is heavy or double stitched and they must be washable. Most experienced gardeners will look for something like this, preferring to buy something that will last for many seasons as opposed to being a one season wonder.

Choosing Gardening Gloves

Gardening is fun and enjoyable because of the personal touch your hands give the soil and plants. It is not a clean job and when gardening you can expect dirt under your nails and wounds to your hands. This is why you need to have a good quality pair of gardening gloves.

When it comes to choosing a pair of gardening gloves you will be faced with a huge choice. They come in different materials and are designed for different jobs. There are gloves that work with broken glass and debris, gloves for pruning thorns, mixing chemicals and operating garden machinery such as the petrol strimmer. There are also general gardening gloves which are quite versatile and can be used for digging, raking and weeding.

So you need to decide on which task you want the gloves for. If you are a person who will take care of all aspects of your garden then you will probably find yourself buying 3 or 4 different pairs of gloves. But no matter ho many pairs you buy, you still need to go through the same procedure for each pair to make sure that they are perfect.

Size of the gardening gloves is all important. Gloves that are too big will slip off your hands as you are using them. Gloves that are too small will give you blisters and cause aches to your hands. So you need a pair of garden gloves that fit perfectly. To see if the fit is perfect, try on the gloves on both hands. Close your fists and simulate garden work with your hands. If your hands feel comfortable all through these tests and the gloves do not slip off, then they are just right for you.

Gardening gloves can be purchased from all decent gardening stores and from the internet. They do differ in price and quality, but it is always recommended that you buy to suit your personal needs. If you are doing light gardening tasks then look at cotton or polyester gloves. For heavier gardening tasks you should be looking at leather made gloves. For mixing chemicals the gardening gloves you need must be chemical resistant. And finally if you are using a petrol strimmer you want garden gloves with extra grip.

Gardening gloves are very affordable and money well spent if you spend any time at all in the garden. They will give you the comfort and necessary protection you need to allow you to go back in to the garden day after day..

Garden Gloves

Wearing garden gloves when doing gardening work is just common sense. You need to protect your hands at all times and a good quality pair of garden gloves will provide this protection against numerous measures.

Many of us will jump in to the garden as soon as it has stopped raining. The garden in this case will be wet and maybe muddy and this is not particularly appealing. If you have a pair of rubber gardening gloves that have a cotton lining then you can work to your hearts content in these conditions without the wet mud getting under your nails or in to any cuts you have.

In the upkeep of a garden many people use pesticides of some sort. These pesticides contain chemicals which can actually be harmful to us if swallowed or absorbed by the skin. Wearing a pair of latex or plastic gardening gloves will protect you from these threats. There are neoprene gloves which have been specifically designed to be worn when using pesticides.

Tidying up a garden involves trimming and cutting back your bushes and blooms. Roses require a lot of care and attention. All these trimming and cutting exposes you to many different thorns and other weeds such as stinging nettles. This is perhaps the main use where wearing a decent pair of gardening gloves comes in to their element. Thorns hurt when they stick your hands. With garden gloves you are protecting from this.

And with any garden tools or garden machinery, such as the petrol strimmer, you need gardening gloves for additional grip and to protect against blistering.

Best Gardening Gloves

As said earlier the range of gardening gloves out there in the market today is huge. We have selected a couple of brands that are well worthy of consideration in your quest to find the ideal gardening glove.

Bionic Gloves

We love these gardening gloves. All Bionic gloves have been designed by a leading orthopaedic hand surgeon. Even the Arthritis Foundation has praised the bionic range for it’s ease of use.

The gloves have been designed to be free moving and have motion zones over the knuckles and between the fingers. This all enables extra movement and enhances grip, making them stronger gloves without any energy from the wearer. These gloves work well, look good and also pay attention to the wrist area which is often neglected by lesser makes. All in all these are our favourite brand.

OX-ON Gloves

A close second behind Bionic are OX-ON gardening gloves. When it comes to tanning leather, Chrome is often used. However this is a toxic material and it can cause allergic reactions to some people. OX-ON has a new range of garden gloves called the New Eco. This range only uses soft leather which has been tanned using a vegetable based process. So no chromium 3 is used. So if you have sensitive skin these  garden gloves are perfect for you.

Gardengirl Gloves

Finally for the female gardener we like Gardengirl Gloves. Their gardening gloves are specifically designed for the female and are a little different to the average female glove. They are light gloves that have rounded fingertips and long cuffs.

Other features include a grippy palm that is soft and durable. The back of their gloves are breathable and stretchy made from spandex. There are 6 sizes in the ranges.
